Originally formed as an industrial fire brigade in the late 1950's to provide protection for the growing research facilities and new residential communities within the Sterling Forest area, it was owned and operated by the Sterling Forest Land Corp. and manned by both employees and resident volunteers.

On June 26, 1968, the resident volunteers incorporated to form the Sterling Forest Volunteer Fire Company and elected their first slate of officers.
